Compressor Spray Guns

Fuji Spray compressor spray guns — HVLP and mid-pressure guns that run off a shop compressor rather than a turbine. Three families: the V8 Series H-V8 and MP-V8 for production work, and the VALOR Series for automotive refinish.

Guidance for Compressor Spray Gun Selection

Guidance for Compressor Spray Gun Selection

This page covers three compressor spray gun families: H-V8, MP-V8, and VALOR — along with the matching air cap sets for each. All of them run off a shop compressor rather than a Fuji turbine; for turbine guns, see Turbine Spray Guns.

Two questions decide it: what you spray, and HVLP or mid-pressure.

  • HVLP (H-V8): A soft, even spray at low pressure, with up to 85% transfer efficiency and SCAQMD certification. Base and clear coats, waterborne or solvent-based. Pick it when finish and material savings matter more than speed.
  • Mid-Pressure (MP-V8, MP-V8 STEALTH): Finer atomization at higher pressure for high-volume production, with the same 85% transfer efficiency. The STEALTH is the same gun in limited-edition matte black, tuned as the clear-coat specialist.
  • Automotive refinish (VALOR): Three guns split by the coat you are laying down — the compact Mini H50 for spot repair and blends, H100 BASE for base coat, and M100 CLEAR for clear coat.

Every V8 Series gun is sold with no cup, a 600cc aluminum cup, or a 600cc nylon cup. All of them take 3M PPS 2.0 cups with the right adapter.

After selecting your spray gun, the next step is choosing the right air cap set for it.

Air Cap Sets

Air Cap Sets

Each air cap set includes a fluid nozzle, needle, and air cap. The nozzle and needle must be the same size — together they meter how much material reaches the air stream — while the air cap can go one size up or down from that pairing to fine-tune atomization. Size by what you spray, not by the gun: thin materials like dyes, stains, and clear lacquers want a smaller nozzle; heavy latex, primers, and filled coatings want a larger one.

Fuji’s Air Cap Quick Reference Sheet (PDF) maps every size against the materials it suits.

  • 0.8 mm: Ideal for ultra-fine applications such as inks, dyes, and touch-up work. Best suited for artists and highly detailed projects.
  • 1.0 mm: Perfect for fine finishing tasks, including water-based lacquers, sealers, and stains. This is a versatile choice for most clear finishes.
  • 1.3 mm: Offers a slightly higher output, making it suitable for automotive enamels, catalyzed lacquers, and latex paints on cabinetry and trim.
  • 1.5 mm: Provides medium output, ideal for spraying walls, ceilings, and larger surfaces with materials like primers and oil-based paints.
  • 1.8 mm: Designed for high output applications, including thick coatings like epoxy, adhesives, and multi-fleck paints.
  • 2.0 mm and 2.5 mm: These sizes are for very high output needs, suitable for industrial primers, texture coatings, and heavy latex applications on large surfaces.

The H-V8 ships with a 1.4 mm set and takes 1.2 mm to 2.2 mm. The MP-V8 and MP-V8 STEALTH ship with a 1.3 mm set and take 1.2 mm to 2.2 mm. The VALOR M100 CLEAR takes 1.2 mm to 2.1 mm, the H100 BASE 1.3 mm to 1.7 mm, and the Mini H50 ships with a 1.0 mm set and takes 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm. Compressor and turbine air cap sets do not interchange.
