Spray Gun Feed Styles: Bottom-Feed vs. Gravity-Feed vs. Side-Mounted

• Gravity-Feed (T75G / 7002G): With the cup above the gun, gravity-feed models are perfect for smaller jobs and tight spaces. They offer better maneuverability and are easier to clean, making them a favorite for detailed work like cabinetry.
• Bottom-Feed (T70 / 7001): Ideal for larger projects, these guns have the fluid cup beneath the gun, allowing for higher capacity (up to 1 quart). This setup is well-balanced and reduces the need for frequent refills, making it suitable for extensive spraying tasks.
• Side-Mounted Gravity-Feed (G-XPC): With the cup mounted to the side rather than on top, the G-XPC keeps the gun’s profile low and well-balanced while still relying on gravity feed for consistent, low-effort spraying. This design improves sightlines to the workpiece and makes it easier to spray in tight or awkward positions, such as horizontal surfaces or corners, without the cup getting in the way.

After selecting your spray gun, the next step is choosing the right air cap set for it.

Each air cap set includes a fluid nozzle, needle, and air cap. The nozzle and needle must be the same size — together they meter how much material reaches the air stream — while the air cap can go one size up or down from that pairing to fine-tune atomization. Size by what you spray, not by the gun: thin materials like dyes, stains, and clear lacquers want a smaller nozzle; heavy latex, primers, and filled coatings want a larger one.

• 0.8 mm: Ideal for ultra-fine applications such as inks, dyes, and touch-up work. Best suited for artists and highly detailed projects.
• 1.0 mm: Perfect for fine finishing tasks, including water-based lacquers, sealers, and stains. This is a versatile choice for most clear finishes.
• 1.3 mm: Offers a slightly higher output, making it suitable for automotive enamels, catalyzed lacquers, and latex paints on cabinetry and trim.
• 1.5 mm: Provides medium output, ideal for spraying walls, ceilings, and larger surfaces with materials like primers and oil-based paints.
• 1.8 mm: Designed for high output applications, including thick coatings like epoxy, adhesives, and multi-fleck paints.
• 2.0 mm and 2.5 mm: These sizes are for very high output needs, suitable for industrial primers, texture coatings, and heavy latex applications on large surfaces.

T-Model and M-Model guns ship with a 1.3 mm air cap set and take sizes from 0.8 mm to 2.5 mm. The G-XPC ships with a 1.4 mm set and takes 0.7 mm to 2.2 mm. The Touch-Up ships with a 1.0 mm set and takes 1.0 mm or 1.8 mm.

T-Model (T75G & T70): These are Fuji’s premium guns, known for their lightweight design (20% lighter than standard HVLP guns) and ergonomic Stay-Cool handles. They feature a side-mounted Fan Pattern Control and provide excellent atomization for a professional finish.

M-Model (7002G & 7001): Often bundled with Fuji’s 2-stage systems, M-Models are budget-friendly and versatile. They come in both bottom-feed and gravity-feed options and include rear-mounted controls for fluid and fan adjustments. While slightly heavier, they offer reliable performance for hobbyists and occasional users.

G-XPC (9600-G): A side-mounted gravity-feed spray gun designed for precision and comfort. It features a unique side-mounted 400cc gravity cup that provides excellent visibility of your work surface and flexibility when spraying in tight areas. Its compact design and easy-to-adjust fan control make it ideal for fine finishing, touch-ups, and detailed cabinet or furniture work. Lightweight yet durable, the G-XPC delivers consistent atomization and is a favorite for professionals and serious hobbyists seeking control and efficiency.

Touch-Up (9622): A compact turbine gun for detail work, touch-ups, and hard-to-reach places. It carries an 8 oz. nylon mini cup with stainless steel fluid passages, needle, and nozzle, and ships with a 1.0 mm air cap set whose fan pattern adjusts from ¼" to 6". Unlike Fuji’s other spray guns it is a bleeder-style gun — air flows continuously whether or not the trigger is pulled — and it connects to any Fuji Spray HVLP turbine through the quick-connect coupler on your hose. A 1.8 mm air cap set is available separately for higher-output work.
